A SITE manager for a Kintore based housebuilders firm is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his father after homing in on a national quality award.
Steven Lyon of Malcolm Allan Housebuilders Ltd. has won the national Quality Award in NHBC's Pride in the Job Awards for his excellent site management skills.
Pride in the Job has been established for 26 years, and rewards site managers with excell
ent standards on site and Steven was selected from more than 18,000 contenders from across the United Kingdom for the award. Judging takes place all through the year, and all areas of a site manager's work are inspected, from start to finish.
Malcolm Allan Housebuilders has a history of producing Pride in the Job winners, as does Steven's family. Steven's father Bert - himself an employee of the company - was the Supreme Winner for the UK for three consecutive years. He is delighted that Steven has won through the first stage of the competition.
Bert said: "I am really pleased that Steven has won a Quality Award, it shows the total commitment our team has to high standards, both on-site and in the homes we build. We've not got our fingers crossed he goes through to the next round."
In total, 400 Quality Award winners were hand-picked as first round winners. Steven will now go through to the next heat where he will aim to win a Seal of Excellence Award this autumn.
The Pride in the Job campaign will reach its climax with the Supreme Awards, when NHBC announces the UK's top three site managers at a gala dinner in January.
Pride in the Job Award winners must show a great deal of commitment and hard work. Judging is based on 38 different elements of site management, from technical knowledge, consistency in the build process to excellent leadership and organisational skills.
NHBC (the National House-Building Council) is the standard setting body and leading warranty and insurance provider for new and newly converted homes in the UK. Its role is to work with the housebuilding and wider construction industry to provide risk management services that raise the standards of new homes, and to provide consumer protection to new home buyers.
